Sat. 4/23 9a: This time on The Children's Hour we celebrate our planet, the only place in the known universe that can sustain human life. We are joined by the authors of the new book for kids called The Tantrum That Saved The World, renown climate scientist Dr. Michael Mann and illustrator and author Megan Herbert.This book tells the story of a child fed up with adults not listening to her or take action to address the perils of climate change. Our Kids Crew talk with Dr. Mann and Ms. Herbert about how kids are playing a crucial role in getting the grownups to take notice and listen.We're joined also by two climate activist kids from The Global Warming Express. Kaia and Marina are dedicated to raising awareness about climate change because they want a future for their grandchildren.This show is mixed with excellent music to inspire kids everywhere to treasure and protect our Mother Earth.

We鈥檒l ask state and local policy makers and researchers what we can do to compete while other Southwestern cities and states seem to be doing better. Is government work on your radar or have you run into difficulties because you couldn't get the help you needed because of an understaffed government?

Saturday 12/18, 12 pm on Women Focus 鈥� Carol Boss talks with Debbie Sledge, one of the four sisters who formed the vocal group Sister Sledge and who became global superstars. They have been a symbol of unity with their iconic worldwide hit and album "We Are Family" as well as recording some of the biggest dance anthems of all time. Joining in the conversation is daughter Camille Sledge who is a well-known singer in her own right and founder of the School of Hip Hop in Phoenix which gives back to the community and introduces young people to music performance. Although there is also a new generation of Sledges creating music under the name Sledgendary, the original Sister Sledge band continues to perform.

As the cost of college continues to soar, more students are finding themselves struggling to find stable housing and enough to eat. A 2019 study found of 167,000 students nationwide found 39% had experienced food insecurity in the last 30 days, and the coronavirus pandemic has only made this worse. A team of researchers at the University of New Mexico found these students are more likely to fail or withdraw from class, or drop out of school entirely.

On this edition of The Children鈥檚 Hour, we learn about bystander intervention with Hollaback educators. The Kids Crew find out what are the 5 D鈥檚 which give us tools to best respond when someone is being bullied.The Five D鈥檚 of bystander intervention are: Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, and Direct.
